Rajmandir Cinema ( Pride Of Asia)

Rajmandir - A Dream

Rajmandir was the dream of Shri Mehtab chandra Golcha who wanted a cinema hall that will cross the boundary of traditional cinema and will showcase more than just movie. He wanted a cinema hall that could hold his audience for his style and elegance. A cinema that will make his audience feel like that they are the royal guest of a palace and are invited for a complete entertainment.

Rajmandir was his idea that has proud India and over the years has witnessed many movie premiers, and has become one of the most popular tourist place of Jaipur.

Rajmandir is owned by Bhuramal Rajmal Surana , the reputed jewellers of Jaipur since 250 Years. It is often referred as the Pride of Asia.

Rajmandir - Construction

The foundation stone of Rajmandir was laid in 1966 by Shri Mohanlal Sukhadia (Chief Minister of Rajasthan). The building took its shape under the guidance of Shri Mehtab Chand Golcha. It took ten long years to build this large size, meringue-shaped auditorium and turning a dream into reality. This modern age marvel was inaugrated on 1st June 1976 Tuesday, by then Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Shri Hari Dev Joshi.

Famous architect of that time Shri W.M. Namjoshi designed Raj Mandir in a Art Moderne Style (Streamline modern or late Art Deco). His creativity and Golcha's and Surana's perception began a new era in cinema. It was the time when architectural aspect was also given importance.

It was the appeal and glamour of the Rajmandir that it was considered as the finest architecture building in the history of cinema halls and was given the title “Pride of Asia”.

Interior and Exterior of this single screened talkie was done with great concern and care. With their elaborate superfluities and remarkable architecture, Rajmandir represents one of the most outstanding creativity. An architectural venture in itself, its each design is a remarkably splendid sample of unbelievable artistry, covering a sense of mystery, deception and art. Be it is the “Nine Stars” on the exterior of the Rajmandir or “revoloving panel” in interior, each has its own story and significance.

While Nine stars on the exterior signifies the nine gem stone and highlights the occupation of the Surana's Family, Sky format chandeliers graced with stars on its surrounding reminds the dreams of Shri Mehtab chand Golcha. All these are the perfect example of master craftsmanship and elegance.

Rajmandir - Architecture

Rajmandir - The pride of Asia has always remains as a symbol of beauty and creativity. The main lobby of this cinema hall casts a magic spell on each and every visitor. One of its unique feature is the lightning system. Before the show starts the lobby is illuminated by white lights, whereas in the interval the light changes its colour to magnificent blue.

The high ceilings are ornamented with chandeliers. The walls with artistic work, also adorn custom made wooden tiles with glass inlay. A rising staircase on the south side of the lobby further adds to the already enchanting sight.

Going by the tradition, the seating of Rajmandir has been divided into four precious sections, namely: Pearl, Ruby, Emerald and Diamond. Ambience of a heritage palace has been created in the Viewing Hall, with velvet draped curtains on a gigantic screen. The visitors make it a point to take their seats well in advance to admire the spellbinding sight.

Natural floral scent, released through the air conditioning ducts placed under every seat, makes the atmosphere mesmerising.

Watching movies in Rajmandir are such an experience that one would like to come here again and again. This can be supported by the fact that since last 25 years nearly every show at Rahnandir has been houseful.
